The blessed month of the Rabbi ul Awwal is an important month Islamic calendar as it marks the birth of the holy Prophet (PBUH). There are many valuable and beautiful aspect of the Sunnah of the holy Prophet (PBUH) that we can benefits throughout the year and strive to embody. For example, the messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) was an orphans and taking care of orphans is a highly rewarding Sunnah.

This is how I and the one nurtures the orphans will be together in the paradise’’ and Prophet (peace be upon him) held up both his fingers to explain.

What is Rabbi ul Awwal?

Rabi al-Awwal is the third month of the Islamic calendar and an important time for Muslims, as it is the birth month of the Prophet Muhammad, who would change the course of humanity forever.

The messengers of Allah, May gods blesses him and grant him peace, was born orphan in Makah in 570CE, and Allah declared him a mercy for all worlds:

‘’it was only mercy that we sent you to all people.’’

(Quran, 21:107)

It is stated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) was born on a Monday, but there are different opinion about the exact date of birth of the Prophet (PBUH). Some believe that the he (PBU) was born on 12th of Rabbi ul Awwal.

While fasting on Monday is not obligatory, the prophet (PBUH) made it part of his Sunnah.

The messenger of Allah, May god blesses him and grant him peace, was asked about fasting on Monday, and he said: I was born on that day and the revelation was revealed to me on that day. (Muslim)

Why Rabi Awwal is is important for Muslims?

Unlike some other holy months in the Islamic calendar, such as surah dhu al-Hijjah and Ramadan, Rabi al-Awwal is important, but there are no specific or required of worship for Muslims during this blessed month.

Rather, Rabi al-Awwal is another occasion for the Muslims to reflect to the importance of our Prophet (PBUH) and the role he has played in the breath of Islamic history.

It is also month in which the beloved Prophet (PBUH) passed away.

When is Rabi al-Awwal?

This year, the month of Rabbi ul Awwal is starting on Saturday, September 16, 2023, according to the sighting of the moon.

The Islamic Hijri calendar is based n the lunar calendar which consists of 12 lunar months. Each month begin when the new moon is visible. Rabi al-Awwal is the third month in the Islamic calendar after the holy month of Muharam and sufar.

There are innumerable virtues that we have inherited from the life and the teaching of holy Prophet. The months of Rabi al-Awwal give us the opportunity of reflect and reviews the lesson learns from his precious life.

Before the birth of the holy Prophet, people were living in darkness and ignorance. They worship different gods. They were straying from the path of Allah. With the birth of the messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace; he brought with him the messenger of truth, the messenger of Allah, his oneness. This message led people to the path of enlightment, helping them to distinguish between right and wrong.

The greatest quality of our Prophet (peace be upon him) is that he is last of all Prophets and there will be no other prophet after him. Muhammad 9peace be upon him) will remain a Prophet for all mankind until the day of Resurrection. As Allah says in the Quran: ‘’….. You (peace be upon him) are the messenger of Allah and the last of the Prophets. And Allah is aware of everything.
