What ImagePolish stores on your computer

ImagePolish keeps a small amount of information in your browser's extension storage. None of it is transmitted by ImagePolish to anyone, and removing the extension removes all of it.

• Your preferences — which categories of metadata to remove by default, whether to optimize or convert, your appearance choice, and on Pro your own limits. Stored in Chrome's synced extension storage, which means Chrome itself copies them between your signed-in devices, exactly as it does your bookmarks. That copying is Chrome's, not ours, and it carries no image data because none is ever put there.
• Your metadata presets — anything you type in yourself to write back onto an image, such as your name, a copyright line or a description. Also in synced storage, for the same reason. These are the only personal details ImagePolish ever holds, and they are ones you entered on purpose.
• A daily count — free version only. A limit of five images a day cannot work without counting to five, so one integer and today's date are written to local storage on this machine. It is deliberately not synced. Nothing about which images is recorded: no filename, no size, no content, and no hash of any kind. It is never transmitted anywhere. Pro has no daily limit and so has nothing to count.
• Your licence record — Pro only, in local storage, described in its own section below. Anyone who has not bought Pro has no such record.

ImagePolish stores no image data, no filenames, no metadata values read out of your files, no thumbnails and no history. Closing the tab discards the batch you were working on, and it is not recoverable — restoring it would mean writing down which files you had opened.

No content hashes are generated, anywhere, for any purpose. A hash of an image is not anonymous: it lets someone confirm whether a specific known image was processed. Generating one for convenience would create exactly the record this product exists not to keep.

Location data in your photos

Photographs frequently contain the GPS coordinates of where they were taken. ImagePolish reads that location out of your own file, displays it to you, and deletes it when you ask it to. It is never transmitted and never stored.

Showing it is the point: you cannot decide to remove something you were never told was there, and location is listed first, above everything else, for that reason.

Coordinates are shown as plain text and there is no map. Rendering a map, or turning coordinates into a place name, would mean sending your location to a third-party service — which is precisely the disclosure this tool exists to prevent. The “copy coordinates” control puts them on your clipboard and does nothing else.

ImagePolish Pro and the licence check

Buying Pro is optional. If you never buy it, ImagePolish makes no network requests of any kind, and this section does not apply to you.

Purchases are handled by Freemius, Inc., our reseller and Merchant of Record. The purchase happens on Freemius's own checkout page, in an ordinary browser tab. ImagePolish never sees, handles or stores your card details, your billing address or your email address.

After a purchase you receive a licence key and paste it into ImagePolish. When you do — and only then — ImagePolish sends one request to https://api.freemius.com to confirm the key is valid. That request contains exactly three things:

• The licence key you entered.
• An activation identifier: 32 random hexadecimal characters generated on your device at that moment by your browser's cryptographic random number generator. It is not derived from your computer, your browser, your profile, your location, the date, or anything else about you — two people installing the same extension on the same model of laptop on the same day get unrelated values. It exists only so that a licence with a seat limit can tell one activation from another.
• The product's own name, so Freemius knows which product is asking.

Nothing about any image is included — no image data, no filename, no file size, no dimensions, no metadata values, and no count of how many images you have processed. Once a key is confirmed, ImagePolish re-checks it quietly in the background from time to time, sending the same three fields and nothing else. If your device is offline, Pro keeps working and the extension tells you how long for.

Chrome asks your permission before ImagePolish can reach api.freemius.com. It asks at the moment you submit a key, never at install, and the permission is withdrawn automatically when you remove your licence. If you decline, nothing breaks: your key is kept and the free version carries on exactly as before.

Removing your licence sends one final request asking Freemius to release the activation, then deletes the stored licence record — activation identifier included — from your browser.

Freemius handles your purchase under its own privacy policy, at https://freemius.com/privacy/. As with any web request, your IP address is visible to the server receiving it; that is a property of the internet rather than something ImagePolish sends, and it happens only on the licence check.

What ImagePolish does not do

• No analytics, no telemetry, no crash reporting, no usage statistics.
• No advertising, and no advertising identifiers.
• No cookies, and no tracking of any kind.
• No accounts, no sign-in, no password, nothing to recover.
• We do not sell your information. There is nothing to sell.
• ImagePolish never reads, changes or interacts with any web page you visit. It requests no access to websites, so it has none — and it therefore has no access to your browsing history, your tabs or your bookmarks.
• It does not send your images to any AI service, ours or anyone else's, for any purpose. It does not use them to train anything.

The files ImagePolish creates

A cleaned image carries the metadata you chose to keep and nothing else. By default that is the orientation tag, which keeps a rotated photo upright, and the colour profile, which keeps its colours correct — both are listed under “kept” in the result, and both can be turned off.

ImagePolish adds no metadata of its own. It does not write its own name, a timestamp, or any identifier into the files it produces, and it does not record the names of the files it worked on.

The picture data itself is copied across unchanged, byte for byte, and the two copies are compared before you are offered a download. If they differ, the result is discarded rather than given to you.

What this product cannot do

Stated here because it is part of being honest about what you are getting, not a disclaimer buried at the end.

ImagePolish removes metadata embedded in your image file. It cannot detect or remove invisible watermarks carried in the image's pixels, and it does not affect systems that analyse the picture itself. Some AI tools embed both a metadata record and a pixel watermark; ImagePolish's cleaning path does not alter a single pixel, so its effect on the second is exactly zero. No claim is made about what any website or service will do with an image you upload to it.

Verification confirms the absence of what ImagePolish's own parser understands, in the formats it understands. It cannot prove that nothing remains in a region it did not parse, and the product says so beside the claim rather than only here.

Children

ImagePolish is a general-purpose utility and is not directed at children. It collects no information from anyone, of any age.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the last-updated date above changes with it. Any material change to what ImagePolish stores or transmits will also be described in the extension's changelog on the Chrome Web Store.
