Overview

Hide Shorts, Reels, Stories & Sponsored helps users reduce distracting short-form content on YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram. This policy explains what data is stored or processed by the extension and the optional Pro entitlement system.

Data Stored Locally

The extension stores these items in your browser using Chrome storage:

  • Hide toggle preferences for Shorts, Reels, Stories, Explore, and video controls
  • Focus Mode and theme preferences
  • A randomly generated extension install User ID
  • A short-lived cached Pro entitlement response
  • A count of today's filter changes and your install date, used only for the free tier's daily allowance. Neither is ever sent to our server
  • A random advertising token and its 24-hour expiry, stored by the AdsOnBread SDK. Free installs only — Pro never requests an ad, so nothing is stored

The local User ID connects one extension installation with optional Pro access. It is not your Google, YouTube, Facebook, or Instagram account ID.

Data Sent to Our Server

When the extension checks Pro access, it sends the local extension User ID to our entitlement API at https://waafaa.com/wp-json/hide-shorts-reels/v1/entitlement.

If a user purchases or receives Pro access, we may store:

  • Extension install User ID
  • Customer full name
  • Customer email address
  • Plan type and subscription status
  • Freemius license ID, when available
  • Pro expiry date, when available
  • Internal support remarks added by an administrator

This data is used only to verify Pro access, provide support, restore access, and manage subscription records.

Promotional slot content

Each time the popup is opened, free installations also request the current promotional slot content from https://waafaa.com/wp-json/hide-shorts-reels/v1/ads.

This request carries no identifier of any kind — no User ID, no query parameters — and returns the same response for every installation. As with any web request, our server sees the connecting IP address, which is not stored alongside any identifier or used to build a profile. The response contains only the images, labels, and links shown in the popup's promotional slots.

Pro installations hide these slots, so nothing from this request is displayed to a Pro user.

Payment Processing

Payments are handled by Freemius, our reseller and Merchant of Record. We do not store full card numbers or payment credentials in the extension or WordPress plugin. Freemius may process payment-related information under its own policies.

Browsing Data

The extension does not collect, sell, or share browsing history. It checks and modifies supported YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram pages locally so it can hide or redirect distracting content according to your settings.

Analytics, Ads, and Sharing

The free tier shows promotional content inside the extension's own popup, and nowhere else. There are two kinds. One is a single contextual ad supplied by AdsOnBread, an ad network for browser extensions. The others are two in-house promotional slots whose content we serve ourselves, described under “Promotional slot content” above.

Pro is ad-free. An active Pro entitlement hides every promotional slot, and no ad is requested from AdsOnBread at all — so nothing in the rest of this section applies to a Pro installation.

Nothing is ever injected into YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, or any other website you visit. On the pages you browse, the extension only ever removes content — it never adds ads, affiliate links, or tracking pixels.

When an ad is requested, the AdsOnBread SDK stores a random pseudonymous token and a 24-hour expiry locally, and sends the unexpired token, your browser language, and impression and click counts to AdsOnBread for frequency capping, billing accuracy, and fraud prevention. AdsOnBread also derives a coarse country from the request. This is not used for behavioral advertising or cross-site profiling, and neither the extension nor AdsOnBread receives the pages you visit or what you hide. We do not sell user data. Data is shared only when required for core services, such as Freemius payment processing, AdsOnBread ad delivery on the free tier, hosting, legal compliance, or support operations.

Data Retention and Choices

Local browser data remains in your browser until you clear extension storage or uninstall the extension. Pro entitlement records may remain on our server while needed for subscription management, support, accounting, fraud prevention, or legal compliance.
