Privacy policy

The short version
- Your conversations stay on your computer. They are stored in your browser. We have no server that receives them.
- No account needed. Everything except Pro works without signing up.
- No tracking, no analytics, no ads. The extension sends no usage data.
- AI is optional and uses your own key. Without a key, nothing is ever sent. With one, only the chats you ask about go, straight from your browser to the provider you chose. Your key stays in your browser.
- Your data is portable. Export everything as Markdown, JSON or HTML at any time, free.
What the extension reads and stores
On ChatGPT (chatgpt.com), Claude (claude.ai), Gemini (gemini.google.com), Perplexity (www.perplexity.ai) and Grok (grok.com) the extension reads the conversation you are viewing, using your existing sign-in, and saves it in your browser's storage on your computer. It runs on no other site. It also stores your settings and the tags, projects and collections you make. This data never leaves your computer unless you export it or back it up yourself.

Nothing else. There is no error-reporting service and no analytics.
Cloud backup
Backup to your own Google Drive or Dropbox is part of Pro. It only runs after you connect an account. It sends your backup files (optionally encrypted) only to the storage you chose, and keeps sign-in tokens only on your computer. Only the folder the extension creates in your storage is used. Restoring from the cloud, or from a file, is free.
Google API Limited Use
The use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
We do not sell user data, we do not use it for anything unrelated to the single purpose of saving, searching and backing up your own conversations, and we do not use it to judge creditworthiness or for lending.
Payments
Pro is sold by Freemius, Inc., our reseller and Merchant of Record. Freemius handles your payment details. We never see your card.
Your choices
- Pause saving, switch a site off, or leave one chat out at any time.
- Delete a chat, or everything, in the extension.
- Remove the extension and Chrome deletes its stored data.
Children
AI Chat Vault is not directed at children under 13.
