Is AI Chat Vault free?

Yes. Free saves every chat and keeps your newest 200 open, with search, organizing, export and file backup. Pro opens older chats and adds more. See Free and Pro.

Do I need an account?

No. There is nothing to sign up for. Only Pro uses a licence key from your purchase email.

Which AIs does it work with?

ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity and Grok.

Does it save my chats on its own?

Yes. When an answer finishes, the chat is saved. You do not press anything.

Where are my chats stored?

On your computer, inside Chrome. We have no server that receives them. See Privacy.

Can you or the AI companies read my saved chats?

We cannot. Your saved chats stay on your computer. The AI sites already have the chats you had with them, and AI Chat Vault does not send them anything new. The one exception is yours to choose: if you add your own AI key and press Summarize or Ask, that chat goes to the AI provider you picked, and only then.

Can it summarize my chats or answer questions about them?

Yes, and it is free. You add your own AI key under Settings, then AI. Google Gemini has a free tier. See Use AI with your own key.

Why do I need my own AI key?

So the AI work runs on your own account with a provider you trust, and nothing about it passes through us. It also keeps AI Chat Vault free of AI charges. You pay the provider directly, usually a fraction of a cent for a summary.

Is my AI key safe?

It is stored only in this browser. It is never synced, and never included in a backup or an export. Settings, then AI, has a Remove key button that deletes it.

Does it work on my phone?

No. It is a Chrome extension for computers.

What if I delete the extension?

Chrome deletes the vault with it. Make a backup file first. See Uninstall.

How do I move my chats to a new computer?

Make a backup file, copy it over, install AI Chat Vault, and click Restore from file. See Backup and restore.

Why does a chat have a lock?

You are on the Free plan and the chat is older than your newest 200. It is saved in full. Nothing is deleted. Pro opens it.

Can I get my chats out?

Yes. Export them as Markdown, JSON or HTML at any time. See Export your chats.

I had chats before I installed it. Can I add them?

Yes. Use Import. See Import your history.

A chat did not save. What now?

Follow the short list in If something goes wrong.

Does it slow down my browser?

It does its work in the background and stays out of the way. We tested for long delays while you chat and found none.
