PDFCraft — Privacy
Privacy Policy
PDFCraft is a Chrome extension that converts images into PDF files and merges PDF files together. This policy describes everything it does with your information. It covers both the free version and PDFCraft Pro.
Your files never leave your device
Every document you open in PDFCraft — every image, every PDF, and every file it produces — is read, converted and saved entirely inside your own browser. Nothing about a file is uploaded, copied to a server, or shared with anyone, on either the free or the paid version.
This is not something you have to take on trust. The parts of the extension that read and convert your documents contain no networking code at all, and an automated check refuses to publish a build in which that stops being true. You can confirm it yourself: open Chrome's Network panel and convert a file, or disconnect from the internet — PDFCraft works identically offline.
What PDFCraft stores on your computer
PDFCraft keeps a small amount of information in your browser's local storage, on its own extension origin. None of it leaves your computer, and clearing your browsing data removes it.
- Your settings — page size, orientation, margin, and whether optimization is on.
- Interface state — which panels you left open, and your light or dark theme choice.
- A file-chooser timestamp — written the moment the file picker opens and deleted the moment it closes. It records only that a picker was opened, never what you chose. It exists so PDFCraft can tell you if Chrome closed its window while you were browsing for a file. Any leftover value is discarded after five minutes.
- Your licence record — Pro only, described in the next section. Anyone who has not bought Pro has no fourth item.
PDFCraft stores no filenames, no file contents, no history and no usage counters.
PDFCraft Pro and the licence check
Buying Pro is optional. If you never buy it, PDFCraft makes no network requests of any kind, and this section does not apply to you.
Purchases are handled by Freemius, Inc., our payment provider and merchant of record. The purchase happens on Freemius's own checkout page, in an ordinary browser tab. PDFCraft never sees, handles or stores your card details, your billing address or your email address.
After a purchase you receive a licence key and type it into PDFCraft's licence page.
When you do — and only then — PDFCraft sends one request to
https://api.freemius.com to confirm the key is valid. That request
contains exactly three things:
- The licence key you entered.
- An activation identifier: 32 random hexadecimal characters generated on your device at that moment by your browser's cryptographic random number generator. It is not derived from your computer, your browser, your profile, your location or anything else about you. It exists only so that a licence with a seat limit can tell one activation from another.
- The word “PDFCraft”, so Freemius knows which product is asking.
Nothing about any document is included — no filename, no page count, no file size, no file content. Once a key is confirmed, PDFCraft re-checks it quietly in the background about once a day, sending the same three fields and nothing else. If your device is offline, Pro keeps working and the extension tells you how long for.
Chrome asks your permission before PDFCraft can reach api.freemius.com.
It asks at the moment you submit a key, never at install, and PDFCraft withdraws the
permission automatically when you remove your licence. If you decline, nothing
breaks: your key is kept and the free version carries on exactly as before.
Removing your licence sends one final request asking Freemius to release the activation, then deletes the stored licence record — activation identifier included — from your browser.
Freemius handles your purchase under its own privacy policy, at https://freemius.com/privacy/.
What PDFCraft does not do
- No analytics, no telemetry, no crash reporting, no usage statistics.
- No advertising, and no advertising identifiers.
- No cookies, and no tracking of any kind.
- No accounts, no sign-in, no password, nothing to recover.
- We do not sell your information. There is nothing to sell.
- PDFCraft never reads, changes or interacts with any web page you visit. It has no access to your browsing history, your tabs or your bookmarks.
The PDF files PDFCraft creates
A PDF produced by PDFCraft carries no author, title, producer, creation date or other metadata, and does not inherit the metadata of a source PDF. It does not record the names of the files it was built from.
PDFCraft is not a sanitizer and does not claim to be. When you merge an existing PDF, its pages are copied across as they are, so anything embedded in a page of your own source document is carried into the result.
Children
PDFCraft is a general-purpose utility and is not directed at children. It collects no information from anyone, of any age.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the last-updated date above changes with it. Any material change to what PDFCraft transmits will also be described in the extension's changelog on the Chrome Web Store.
