Photo GPS Location

Find out whether a photo says where it was taken, and see the coordinates it carries. Phones record this by default, and it travels with the file wherever it goes. Your file never leaves this page. Everything happens in your browser, and there is no upload endpoint to send it to — that is checked by a build gate that fails if any network code reaches a tool’s bundle.

How to do it

  1. Add the photo.
  2. If it holds coordinates, they are shown at the top and you can copy them.
  3. Remove them, along with anything else you do not want to keep, and download the clean copy.

Questions

Why is no map shown here?

Because a map means loading tiles from another company, and nothing on these pages is allowed to talk to anyone else. Showing you a map would mean sending your photo’s coordinates to a third party in order to look at them privately, which defeats the point. Copy the coordinates and paste them into whichever map you prefer, in your own tab.

My photo has no location. Why not?

Either location services were off when it was taken, or something along the way already removed it — several messaging apps and social networks do. That is good news, and the tool says plainly that nothing was found rather than leaving you guessing.

How accurate are the coordinates?

Usually within a few metres outdoors, and much less reliable indoors where a phone falls back to nearby networks. Accurate enough to identify a building, which is the reason to care.

Can I remove just the location and keep the rest?

Yes. The keep options let you decide what stays; untick everything except what you want and remove the rest.
