Convert a JPG into a PNG. Useful when you need a lossless copy to edit, or a format that a particular tool insists on. Your file never leaves this page. Everything happens in your browser, and there is no upload endpoint to send it to — that is checked by a build gate that fails if any network code reaches a tool’s bundle.
How to do it
- Add your JPG files.
- Check that the output format says PNG.
- Convert, and download.
Questions
Will the file get bigger?
Almost certainly, and often several times bigger. PNG stores every pixel exactly, while JPEG throws away detail to save space. Converting does not put back what JPEG already discarded — it just stops any more being lost from here on.
Then why convert at all?
Because PNG survives repeated editing and saving without degrading, and because some tools and platforms only accept it. If you are converting for the web, WebP is usually the better destination.
Does it add transparency?
No. A JPEG has no transparency to carry across, so the result is fully opaque. PNG can store transparency; it cannot invent it.
Is the quality improved?
No, and no tool can improve it. What was lost when the JPEG was made is gone.
