Take minified or badly indented JSON and lay it out so a person can read it — proper indentation, one key per line, nesting you can follow. Your file never leaves this page. Everything happens in your browser, and there is no upload endpoint to send it to — that is checked by a build gate that fails if any network code reaches a tool’s bundle.
How to do it
- Paste the JSON, or drop in a file.
- The formatted version appears immediately.
- Copy it back out.
Questions
Does formatting change the data?
No. Only whitespace changes. The keys, values, order and structure are exactly what you gave it.
Can it minify as well?
Yes — the same operation with the indentation removed, which is what you want before putting JSON into a config value or a request body.
Why is my JSON rejected?
Usually a trailing comma, a single quote where JSON requires a double, or an unquoted key. All three are legal in JavaScript and none of them is legal in JSON, which is why they are the three that catch people out. The tool points at the position.
Is it safe to paste an API response?
As far as this page is concerned, yes — it is not transmitted anywhere and is not stored. Whether a response should be pasted into any web page at all is a judgement about your own data, and it is a fair question to ask of every site that offers this.
