What is TOML used for?
Configuration — Cargo.toml, pyproject.toml, Hugo sites. It exists because YAML’s flexibility turned out to be a liability.
Why is my date shown as text?
Because TOML has a date type and JSON does not, and converting it through a date object would rewrite 1979-05-27T07:32:00-08:00 into a different offset — the same instant, a different document. Keeping the text keeps the document.
What about very large numbers?
TOML allows 64-bit integers and a browser holds 53 bits exactly, so anything larger is kept as digits rather than rounded to a number that is not the one you wrote.
