Count the characters, words, sentences and paragraphs in any text, and see how much of a platform’s limit you have used. Your file never leaves this page. Everything happens in your browser, and there is no upload endpoint to send it to — that is checked by a build gate that fails if any network code reaches a tool’s bundle.
How to do it
- Type or paste your text into the box.
- Read the counts. They update as you type.
- Check the platform rows underneath if you are writing for a specific limit.
Questions
Why do different tools give me different character counts?
Because “character” means at least four different things. An emoji is one thing you can see, one Unicode codepoint, two UTF-16 code units and four bytes — and different platforms count different ones of those. This page shows each measure separately and tells every platform row which measure that platform uses, instead of picking one and hoping.
Does it count emoji correctly?
Yes, and that includes the compound ones. A family emoji is built from several people joined together, and this counts it as the single character you see rather than the five or six pieces it is made of.
Does it work with Bangla, Arabic, Hindi or Chinese?
Yes. Those scripts are exactly where naive counters go wrong, because letters combine into clusters that look like one character and are stored as several. The count you see matches what you would count on the screen.
How is reading time worked out?
At 200 words per minute, which is an average for adult silent reading. It is a rough guide rather than a measurement, and it is rounded up.
