Check an Instagram caption against the limit before you post it, with emoji counted the way Instagram counts them. Your file never leaves this page. Everything happens in your browser, and there is no upload endpoint to send it to — that is checked by a build gate that fails if any network code reaches a tool’s bundle.
How to do it
- Paste your caption in.
- Watch the Instagram rows — caption and bio each have their own limit.
- Trim until you are under, then copy it back out.
Questions
What is the Instagram caption limit?
2,200 characters for a caption and 150 for a bio. Instagram counts what you see, so an emoji costs one character rather than two.
Why does another counter say my caption is longer?
Most counters report UTF-16 code units, which is what X counts. Every emoji costs two there and one here. For an Instagram caption, the number on this page is the one that matters.
Will my line breaks survive?
Blank lines often do not — Instagram collapses them. The Instagram Line Breaks page fixes that by putting an invisible character on the empty lines so they are not empty any more.
