JSON Diff

Compare two JSON documents by structure, so reordered keys and different indentation are not reported as changes. Your file never leaves this page. Everything happens in your browser, and there is no upload endpoint to send it to — that is checked by a build gate that fails if any network code reaches a tool’s bundle.

How to do it

  1. Paste the first document.
  2. Paste the second.
  3. Read the list of what actually changed.

Questions

How is this different from comparing them as text?

A text comparison reports differences that are not differences: reorder two keys and every line between them changes; reformat with four spaces and the whole file changes. This compares values by path, so it reports the three things that really happened — a key was added, a key was removed, a value changed.

What about lists?

Name a field that identifies list items — id, usually — and inserting one record is reported as one addition rather than as every following item having changed. There is also a switch for lists where order carries no meaning, such as tags.

Is this included for free?

Comparing them as plain text is free and always will be, on the Text Diff page. The structural comparison is part of Pro.
