Italic Text Generator

Make italic text for places that only accept plain text. Paste it into a profile, a caption or a comment where there is no formatting toolbar. Your file never leaves this page. Everything happens in your browser, and there is no upload endpoint to send it to — that is checked by a build gate that fails if any network code reaches a tool’s bundle.

How to do it

  1. Type or paste your text.
  2. Take the italic version from the output.
  3. Paste it wherever you need it.

Before you use this

Styled text of this kind is made from Unicode characters that look like letters but are not the letters they resemble. That has three consequences worth knowing about:

  • A screen reader does not read it as words. Someone using one hears a stream of character names, or silence.
  • It is not searchable. A search for the plain word will not find the styled version, on this site or anywhere else.
  • It breaks hashtags and usernames on every platform that uses them.

It also does not work for every language. Several major writing systems — Bangla, Hindi and the other Devanagari scripts, Arabic, Hebrew, Thai, and Chinese, Japanese and Korean — have no styled letters in Unicode at all. No tool can style them, including this one, and text in those scripts is passed through unchanged rather than mangled. Use it for a heading or a line of emphasis, not for anything anyone needs to read or find.

Questions

Is this real italic text?

No, and the distinction matters. Real italics are a font choice applied to ordinary letters. These are separate Unicode characters that are drawn slanted, which is why they survive being pasted into a plain-text field — and also why a screen reader cannot read them as words.

Can I combine italic with bold?

Unicode has a bold-italic set for the Latin alphabet, so yes for English and similar languages. Coverage thins out quickly beyond that.

Why are my numbers unchanged?

Because there is no italic digit in Unicode. Digits pass through as they are rather than being swapped for something that merely resembles one.

Will search engines index it?

Not as the words you typed. If the text needs to be found, keep it plain.
