JSON to YAML

Convert JSON to YAML in your browser. Nesting, lists and quoting are handled properly, including the strings YAML would otherwise read as something else. Your file never leaves this page. Everything happens in your browser, and there is no upload endpoint to send it to — that is checked by a build gate that fails if any network code reaches a tool’s bundle.

How to do it

  1. Paste your JSON.
  2. Press Convert to YAML.
  3. Press Copy.

Questions

Does anything get lost?

No. Every JSON value has a YAML equivalent, so this direction is lossless. The reverse is not, because YAML has comments and anchors that JSON has no way to hold.

Why are some strings quoted in the output?

Because leaving them bare would change what they mean. A YAML reader resolves the bare word no to the boolean false, so the country code for Norway is quoted on the way out — as is anything that reads as a number, a date or a null.

Is my data uploaded?

No. The conversion runs in your browser. There is no upload endpoint to send it to.
